Researcher, Louisa Carless

I was lucky enough to be seconded to the Netherlands, where I work as a researcher in the Automotive Applications Department. Working abroad and learning to adapt to another culture is one of the great perks about working for an international company like Corus.

I started off my career as a graduate trainee and within two years I was supervising the next generation of placement students, co-coordinating two European research projects and organising an international conference.

In my current job, I plan, analyse and present research work for a range of Corus business units. This can involve anything from developing new materials for specific applications such as composite coatings for bearings, to improving existing products such as high strength steels for car body panels.

In my spare time, I try my hand at wood turning – a hobby I took up a couple of years ago.
