Synthetic slag is used by the steel industry to prevent the surface of liquid metal from oxidising, and to enhance liquid metal purification through slag/metal interaction. The synthetic slag is further designed so that it does not deteriorate the refractory used in the steel ladle.

HSV combines its expert knowledge of steel making, refractory and slag metallurgy to produce synthetic slag for the steel industry in the UK. Customers include Corus, Outokumpu and Sheffield Forgemasters. HSV is ISO 9001 certified.
