Performance

We will promote and improve the health and well-being of all Corus and Tata Steel employees

Our key performance indicator for safety is lost time injury frequency (LTIF ) rate combined for employees and contractors.

The Group’s global performance data shows an improvement in LTIF from 2.11 in 2007/08 to 1.31 in 2008/09.

It is deeply regrettable and unacceptable that eight people lost their lives working for the Tata Steel Group during the year 2008/09.

There were six fatalities at Tata Steel Group's Indian operations and one at Tata Steel Thailand.  At Corus, a contractor was fatally injured during refractory maintenance work in the steelmaking plant at Teesside.

Each of these incidents has been thoroughly investigated and every possible measure is being and will be taken to prevent similar tragedies from occurring in the future.
