Suppliers

REACH sets out a number of requirements for manufacturers or importers of substances to pass information down the supply chain to their customers.

In the long term downstream users of substances will have access to more information on the hazards of the substances they use.

Corus has been in contact with its suppliers to confirm their REACH compliance.  Our supplies teams have built up a large database of all REACH relevant substances supplied to us and have systematically confirmed REACH compliance with the respective suppliers.  Corus is also an importer of substances from outside the EU and our supplies teams have identified all imported substances and preparations in respect of which Corus is legally designated as the importer.  These substances have all been pre-registered where required by the relevant legal entities of Corus.

To aid the REACH process we will reply to our suppliers when requested to provide information both on the uses of specific substances and on potential exposures while in use.  We recognise that we have a requirement to respond with data when requested by our suppliers in order to ensure our uses are included as part of their registration.

Registration
In order to assess our position in the supply chain with regards to REACH registration.  The Corus supplies teams have sent letters to key suppliers requesting confirmation of registration of the substances they supply to Corus.  The letter used in this exercise is below and available to download.  Please feel free if you have not already done so to complete the attached letter and send it back to your local supplies contact.

Authorisation and Substances of Very High Concern (SVHC)
ECHA have continued to update the candidate list for SVHC subject to authorisation.  We will see this occur at least twice a year for the foreseeable future.  In order to know if any SVHC are present in the substances / products we buy from our suppliers we ask that all our suppliers react proactively when an update to the candidate list is made by informing us if a SVHC is present.  This way Corus can use this information and apply it to our own operations and products so not to cause any issues in the supply chain.  In this way we can all be sure to meet our obligations under REACH.

Corus REACH Statements

Corus has issued a number of statements relevant for its suppliers.  These statements are available to download if you require a copy.  Please see our Corus Statements download page.

The topics which are covered include:

Communication

We ask that our suppliers direct any communications on REACH to their normal supplies team contact.  We have trained all our supplies teams to be able to handle REACH enquiries professionally and, for day-to-day enquiries this will be the most efficient way of communication.

For more technical enquiries you can contact the Corus REACH team by emailing: reach@corusgroup.com

Corus also has an FAQ page specifically looking at questions relating to the steel industry; please use the FAQs to answer your queries.  Specific questions focus on exemptions under REACH for the steel industry and the type of products that are covered under REACH.
