Corus of commitment

03 Jun 2003

Corus Steel Packaging Recycling (CSPR) has invested PRN revenue to provide Eden Community Recycling, a charity group based in the Lake District, with a complete set of can processing equipment.

The community group was founded 20 years ago with the aim to promote recycling initiatives and environmental education and to provide work and training opportunities for adults with learning difficulties in the area.   It is currently run by 6 volunteers and has 25 can sites and 40 recycling centres in the district. It also operates doorstep collection from schools, women institutes, village halls and local businesses.

Between 2000 and May 2003 CSPR has given Eden Recycling ongoing support, investing PRN revenue to provide a can sorter, a conveyor and most recently a baler. The equipment has assisted Eden with the recovery and processing of around 50 tonnes of steel per annum.

Colin Nineham, Eden Community Recycling founder and co-ordinator, says:

“Without the support and advice from Corus we would not have been able to progress this vital link in the recycling loop.”
