Corus invests PRN in Swansea
02 Jun 2003
Corus Steel Packaging Recycling (CSPR) has invested PRN revenue to support the introduction of mixed cans collection in the City and County of Swansea.
Until now, Swansea has been operating a green bag kerbside collection of glass and paper only. Thanks to the provision of an overband magnet by CSPR, recently installed in the City’ s sorting facility, steel and aluminium cans have been included in a new box kerbside scheme.
By 2004 the new service will be expanded to all 100,000 households with a potential recovery of 300 tonnes per annum of steel packaging from the domestic stream.
Trish Flint, Swansea Council's Recycling Team Leader, says:
“I believe partnership is the key to success. We already have successful working partnerships with Swansea Waste Disposal Company and the Environment Center. We were delighted to receive this piece of equipment from Corus, another partner, which has enabled us to expand the range of items we include in our kerbside collections. Swansea has already reached the first Welsh Assembly Government's recycling target a year ahead of schedule and this latest addition will push us on towards our next target.”
