We recognise that our operations can affect the communities and societies within which we operate and we aim to play a positive role.
We promote and encourage economic, environmental, social and educational development where possible and we support our employees’ involvement in local initiatives.
Employment and economic development
At the end of 2006, we directly employed 41,200 people and many thousands more indirectly through our contractors and suppliers. We are also active in stimulating regional employment.
Sponsorships and charitable donations
Many of our businesses have strong links to their neighbouring towns and surrounding regions. We support cultural, social, educational and sporting activities that contribute to the well-being of residents.
Supporting local education
In addition to monetary donations, we also support the educational development of the communities of which we are a part.
Our people in action
Our people are our ambassadors and it is their individual and collective efforts that continue to build and maintain our reputation. They volunteer to assist in local initiatives and we are grateful for their continuing efforts.
