Valve springs are in constant motion when in use, making them one of the most demanding applications for any steel. They have to undergo rigorous fatigue testing and must be of the highest possible quality. Therefore, valve spring steel must be super clean and has to meet very strict quality criteria. Experience in making super clean steels for other automotive applications has enabled Corus to meet the high levels of cleanness in its wire rod through strict control over the steel making practice and purity of its alloys.

Valve springs are part of a family of oil tempered automotive springs. Associated steel compositions are available for clutch, transmission and coil suspension springs.
