Shotblasting and painting

Corus can provide plate products in the shot blasted and primed condition if required.

The plant is capable of shotblasting to SA2½ and to SA3 by agreement and painting to +/- 5 microns from the nominal paint thickness. Automatic inkjet marking of the plate after shotblasting and painting is available.

Plate dimensions from 5mm to 150mm thick, up to 4m wide and from 2.1 to 25m long can be accommodated. There are some restrictions on maximum plate weights and weights per metre of length, so please contact Corus to discuss your requirements.

We are able to perform shotblasting on plates to the following dimensions:

Plate thickness

Plate width

Plate length

Max. conveyor loading

Minimum

5mm

2.1 metres

2.3 tonnes per linear metre

Maximum

150mm

4000mm

25 metres

With a max of 15 tonnes

*Any plate over ten tonnes has to be lifted via chain beam, which reduces plant capacity.

Our equipment:

  • 8 wheel auto blast enclosed unit
  • Abrasive - S330 shot
  • Plant shotblasts to SA2 ½ at 3 metres/minute, SA3 can be achieved as detailed in
    BS 7079: Part A1 1989       ISO 8501-1: 1988
  • Surface profile is between 40 and 45 microns, measured with an Elcometer 123 gauge

Painting:

  • Paint application by automatic airless spray
  • Paint can be applied on either or both sides of the plate
  • Plate edges can NOT be guaranteed for paint coverage
  • Paint dry film thickness (DFT) is measured with an Elcometer 256 gauge

Further Information:

  • Plate automatic ink jet marking is available via the VAX system
  • Minimum "special" paint orders for approximately 20 plates may be accepted by agreement only
  • Material receipt by rail transport. Road transport acceptable by agreement
  • Capacity circa 100ktpa

Sections
We are able to perform shotblasting on sections to the following dimensions:
