Core Drilling Through Blast Furnace Tuyeres
The strength of coke and its size distribution in the tuyere region are essential factors influencing gas distribution in the blast furnace, the ability of liquids to drain through the furnace and the stability of the whole process.
The Ironmaking department has developed a through-tuyere coke-sampling device. The equipment is a modified mobile core drill, with a rotary hammer.
The main advantages are that it is:
-
Self-contained and highly mobile.
-
Small and highly manoeuvrable enabling sampling of several tuyeres in one go.
-
Simple, rapid, rugged and inexpensive.
Customer Benefits
-
Enables the monitoring of blast furnace structures and permeability.
-
Easier evaluation of coke quality, alkalis & accretion problems.
-
Easier assessment of the effects of coal/oil injection.
-
Improves blast furnace operating efficiency.
