Process and Product Training
Corus Research, Development and Technology provides process and product training in a number of areas.
Cokemaking Course
The aim of the course is to enable existing and new members of Corus of coke oven plant staff to develop technically alongside the plant and process personnel, and to alert course members to new developments within the industry, to make them aware of the needs and requirements of adjacent processes, and to enable them to achieve high operating standards and meet future pollution requirements.
Ironmaking Course
Key areas covered include: Raw materials selection and preparation, Coke production and use in the blast furnace, Blast furnace theory, design, and operation, Refractories and slag, and Engineering issues.
Steelmaking Course
The steelmaking course is aimed at middle managers and plant technical, production and engineering functions. and is a mixture of formal presentations and informal discussion, backed up by team project case studies for presentation on the final day.
Casting Course
The training objectives of the course are to provide a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental science and technology involved in the continuous casting process.
Reheating
The reheating process uses around 50% of the total energy costs involved in operating a mill. Savings that can therefore be achieved by improving the fuel efficiency of these furnaces are of significant value.
Hot Rolling Technical Course
The broad aim of the course is to improve the performance of Corus and Corus company rolling mills through the development of a broad understanding by key personnel of the rolling processes and the market requirements.
Cold Rolling & Finishing Course
The broad aim of the course is to improve the performance of Corus and its’ company cold mills by offering key personnel a broad understanding of the cold rolling and finishing processes and market requirements.
Finishing Processes Course
A steel mill requires senior operators and managers to be technically aware of both the processes in their own area of responsibility and those of other similar mills.
