Laser Welding Laboratory

Corus Netherlands has opened a laser welding laboratory dedicated entirely to automotive applications.

Laser welding is a technique which produces narrow welds at high processing speeds but with low distortion levels. It is more and more frequently used today in car manufacturing, ship building and parts manufacturing.

Advanced laser processing is essential to understand the impact of laser processes and to improve the weldability of materials.

The laser facility consists of a YAG/CO2 combination on a 3D lasercell large enough to perform full-scale prototyping. Additionally a robot manipulator is capable of performing more advanced 3D welding and cutting operations. The laser facility is used for laboratory welding and cutting tests of steel and aluminium. There is also an on-site laser team to provide customer support and help with activities such as prototyping and trouble shooting.
