Metallography and Surface Analysis

We have an experienced team of technically and scientifically skilled people with extensive experience in metallography and surface analysis.

The group uses many advanced facilities for microscopic and spectroscopic investigations and have access to several universities and research institutes.

Our microscopic techniques make an image of the material surface, while the spectroscopic techniques give an image of the chemical composition of the surface.

Using these two methods, it is possible to determine the microstructure and morphology of the surface, the distribution of the elements on the surface and the chemical binding of these elements.

The group can also:

  • Investigate non-metallics with infrared spectroscopy
  • Provide in-depth profiling with glow discharge optical emission spectroscopy.
  • Measure quantitative characteristics of microstructures (grains, coatings, thickness distribution).
  • Provide two and three dimensional roughness measurements using a mechanical stylus. Non contact laser measurement is also possible.
