Analysis and testing

A dynamic team of experienced environmental scientists conducts research into the development and application of new chemical analysis methods for trace organic pollutants.

Contamination of environmental media by trace organic pollutants with adverse eco-toxicological properties is an issue of high priority. The sources of such pollutants include industrial processes, energy production, transport and other human activities. Corus works closely with the authorities and other organisations in order to understand the significance of trace organic pollutants in relation to its operations.

The Environment Department has established a state-of-the-art accredited chemical analysis facility for research into this field, including a high-resolution gas chromatograph-mass spectrometer. This facility has been deployed extensively to investigate dioxins, PAHs, and PCBs that are released into the air and environment (vegetation, soil, waters).
