Corus Strip Products UK welcomes new Managing Director
04 Apr 2008
Mr. Uday Kumar Chaturvedi has been welcomed at Corus Strip Products UK this week as he arrived to take the helm of Wales’ key steel business.
Says Mr. Chaturvedi, “This business has a huge role to play in the Welsh economy and I am proud to be playing my part in creating a sustainable steel industry in Wales.”
Mr. Chaturvedi’s arrival follows hot on the heels of two announcements of major investment at the Port Talbot Works – a £60 million project that enhances the plant’s energy capabilities and a £9 million investment in the coke-making facility. Both investments build ever-greater confidence in the future of steelmaking on the site and have significant environmental benefits. As Mr. Chaturvedi takes-up the reins, the Strip Products UK business is building on a record year in 2007, when health and safety achievement has been at an all-time high and the Port Talbot plant reached the 3 million tonne target in the hot rolling mills.
Mr. Chaturvedi was previously Vice President of Tata Steel in Jamshedpur, India and he holds a series of director positions in India, Sri Lanka, Singapore and Thailand. His background includes qualifications and periods of study in the United States, France, the University of Strathclyde and Lucknow, India.
Corus Strip Products UK’s previous Managing Director, Phil Dryden, was appointed Corus Divisional Director, Long Products, in January.
