Corus to sponsor Land Rover GO 60 Project
06 May 2008
Corus Strip Products UK in South Wales has announced its sponsorship of the Land Rover Club’s “GO 60 Sharing Our World” Project, which embarked upon a 17,183-mile adventure on Saturday 3rd May 2008. Travelling from Solihull to Singapore in only 60 days, the GO 60 Project celebrates the 60th anniversary of Land Rover, whilst raising valuable funds for causes including the British Red Cross, to help vulnerable children and their families.
Corus Strip Products UK, based in Port Talbot, Llanwern and Pontardulais supplies tens of thousands of tonnes of high quality steels for body, underbody parts and chassis and suspension components on the Land Rover Discovery 3 model that is being used in this epic journey, a voyage which aims to replicate the London to Singapore Overland Expedition of 1956.
Commenting on the sponsorship agreement, Tim Rutter, Head of Communications, Corus Strip Products UK, explains: “We are delighted to be supporting not only one of our major customer brands, but also the British Red Cross, which helps thousands of people across the globe every year. Furthermore, it is a real privilege to be part of such a unique and challenging adventure, and we wish all of the participants the best of luck.”
Sam Mercer, from the GO 60 Expedition Team said: “We are very pleased to have Corus on board. Not only do they play a key role in supplying materials for our expedition vehicles, but they are also a company with a high regard to social responsibility. They are making an invaluable contribution towards improving the lives of underprivileged children, and this is a clear demonstration of how we can all make a difference to less fortunate communities around the world.”
The GO 60 Project, which will cross the major cities of Europe and Asia, will equally provide a publicity focus for investment in education and raising sponsorship and funding for the communities affected. Following the completion of the journey, the Land Rover vehicles, featuring hand-prints collected whilst on route, will be used as part of an art exhibition.
