Corus to raise prices for aluminised strip steels
11 Jan 2008
The Aluminised Products business of Corus Strip Products UK will raise the price of its aluminised strip steel by €60 per tonne for deliveries from the first quarter of 2008.
Nick Busby, commercial manager automotive, commented, “We can no longer absorb the large increases in the costs of raw materials, energy and transport that we have seen in recent years.”
Corus believes that other events in the market support the increase. “There are signs that the market for metallic-coated steels is improving and other producers are also experiencing increasing costs, particularly long-distance freight that will reduce the competitiveness of imports into Europe”, said Busby.
The Aluminised Products business, whose steels are used in automotive exhausts, domestic appliances and other demanding applications, has been part of the business-wide continuous improvement programme in Corus Strip Products UK. “We have significantly improved our delivery performance and logistics for aluminised strip in 2007”, Busby added, “a process that will continue in 2008 to help our customers reduce the cost of stock and still be able to respond to fluctuating market demands.”
