Corus provides A-level solution
16 Aug 2007
As local students consider their A-level results, Corus at Port Talbot and Llanwern is providing an alternative solution to the purely academic world of college or university.
With a starting salary of £14,000, an additional quarterly bonus, up to 35 days holiday and a final salary pension, it must be worth a thought for students who want to get their career going.
Says Corus spokesman, Robert Dangerfield, “Many young people find the prospect of earning very attractive, but it’s important that the learning process does not end there. Our functional trainees receive training within our business and there are opportunities to forge ahead with a personal learning and development plan during their working life.”
Corus employs about 25 functional trainees in key areas of the business: process development and manufacturing technology, product and market development, supply chain and commercial management.
“At the moment we’re specifically looking out for talented young people with science-related A- and O-levels. There are at least a dozen trainee places unfilled,” says Robert.
Minimum entry requirements are 2 A-levels or equivalent at grade C or above, plus grade C or above in English Language and Maths GCSEs (or equivalent). Some functional traineeships do require specific subjects.
“Students can find out more at www.corusgroupcareers.com,” Robert adds.
