Corus workers raise coffee mugs for Macmillan

Hundreds of Corus staff took a coffee break with a difference at a recent conference, helping to raise £1,500 for charity.
Around 700 employees, contractors and trades union officials from the steel company’s Llanwern, Port Talbot and Pontarddulais sites took a break from their event at St David’s Hall in Cardiff to join in the ‘World's Biggest Coffee Morning’ in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.
One of the UK’s major fundraising events - with an estimated two million people having raised their mugs for Macmillan last year - the coffee morning saw the Corus employees collect £500, which was match-funded by Corus Strip Products UK and the Community Union.
The special conference was organised for staff across all levels and sites of the business to celebrate the achievements that have been made within the company in the last two years and to look forward to future challenges.
”Our aim is to create a sustainable steel industry in Wales for current employees, future generations and the communities in which we operate, “ said Corus spokesman Robert Dangerfield.
”At our conference we celebrated some achievements and examined many challenges that lie ahead. We were also pleased to be able to support the tremendous work done by Macmillan Cancer Support by raising a mug of coffee in the morning break.”
