Corus helps power sparkling Christmas

16 Nov 2007

Neath, Port Talbot and Pontardawe’s Christmas lights will be powered this year with support from Corus.

The company is helping ensure the three towns immerse themselves completely in the festive spirit by also sponsoring the Father Christmas Parades that accompany each one.

The first lights to be switched were in Port Talbot today (November 16) when Mayor of Neath Port Talbot Anthony Taylor – a Corus employee – performed the honours.

The following day Father Christmas was set to arrive at Port Talbot Railway Station at 12.30pm to make his way to his grotto at Aberavon Shopping Centre. Up to 300 people are expected to take part in the procession.

On Friday, November 23, Neath’s Christmas lights will be lit by the Mayor at 6pm, with Santa’s parade starting at the Civic Centre at 12.30pm the following day, and making its way to the town square.

Pontardawe’s Father Christmas parade on Friday, December 7, starts from Church Street at 5.30pm en route for Pontardawe Arts Centre, where Santa and the Mayor will switch on the lights.

Swansea Sound and The Wave local radio stations will be at each event to provide live entertainment for the crowds.

Keith Farron, Community Spokesman for Corus, which has invested additional money in raising the profile of the events, said: “The festivities in each town are hugely popular and much looked forward to every year.

“Corus and its empoyees have played an increasingly active role in local commuity activities and it is entirely appropriate that we are ending this year in such a visible way - and extremely happy that we can get the festive season off to exciting start.”
