The Red Garage at JFK

25 Jul 2005

East Coast airport project for Chicago team.

Close cooperation between the Corus International Americas (Chicago) team of Sales Manager - Peter Joyce, Product Manager - Steve Kovacs and Inside sales Representative - Jessica Lewis with CC&I’s Sales Manager - Peter Gate and Account Manager - Martyn Curnow has resulted in the booking of 2000 tonnes of beams and columns for the Red Garage Project at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.

Booked with Supermetal of Saint Romuald, Province of Quebec, Canada - this portion of the project was won against strong competition from Nucor and Chapparal. The award was based on strong relationships between Corus International Americas personnel and the management of Supermetal. The project was originally flagged up in September 2004 and the enquiry came through in December 2004 when work began immediately on putting together the offer. Deliveries via Montreal and the Great Lakes took place during June and June and July 2005.

Supermetal, with whom Corus has enjoyed a long relationship, is one of North America’s premier fabricators and is heavily involved in East Coast projects particularly the airport sector which is under going a period of growth throughout the continent as more and more people travel and the demand for extra parking space grows. The Red Garage vehicle parking project is designed to meet this need.

In 2002 nearly 30million passengers passed through JFK. The airport, which covers 4,930 acres of land, including 880 acres in the Central Terminal Area, has more than thirty miles of roadway.

Discussions are now underway about the possible supply of plate for the project.
