Team power at Corus - Dream Tower in Jeddah

Corus has pulled off a major coup to supply materials for the prestigious 29-storey Dream Tower development in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It was a Corus International (CI) Projects team effort involving Milton Keynes, the Middle East Dubai hub, local operations in Jeddah, CC&I and Corus Distribution & Building Systems UK.
The package represents a major breakthrough for CI and is one of the largest single orders ever undertaken by Tewkesbury-based, Panels and Profiles business.
The total package consists of 70,000 m² of composite steel floor decking, 800 tonnes of plates and 2,200 tonnes of Grade S355 JR sections for the residential Dream Tower building on the Jeddah seafront. The first major multi-storey steel constructed building in the city, complete with helipad, the Dream Tower is expected to provide accommodation for prominent Sheikhs and their families.
Ben Cunliffe, Commercial Manager, is delighted with the success and reflects on the cross BU team effort, he says:
"This was CI and other Corus Business Units working together to demonstrate the strength of the Corus offer. Our ability to supply the full range of products, combined with technical and operational support, was one of the key factors in winning this project. It was a real team effort initially involving at CC&I who pulled out all the stops on delivery of the structurals. On the floor decking, our Dubai hub, D&BS UK, and our local CI Sales Engineer fronting in Jeddah all played a crucial role in securing the contract.
The structural part of the project with fabricators Arabian International Company (AIC), was won after twelve months work in a climate of global steel shortages. In these difficult circumstances the close working relationship with the customer was key to the outcome. The decking contract with main contractor Kamal Al Zubair for Comflor 70 - a 70mm deep profile product - was also won as a result of tracking and hard work at the early stages of the project which began over twelve months ago. The work with the design houses ensured that the high value profiled sheet product was specified early on."
