Benghazi power plant supply contract - major win for Corus International
05 Oct 2005
First ever Colorcoat Versashield® order for Corus Colors.
14,000m2 of Corus Colorcoat Versashield® pre-finished steel plus flashings and accessories for the upgrading of Libya’s Benghazi North Combined Cycle Power Plant have been sourced from Corus Panels & Profiles, Ammanford UK and Fischer Profil GmbH (Corus) through Corus International Projects (CIP).
The first ever order for Colorcoat Versashield® from Corus Colors is a testament to both the quality of the product and the negotiating ability of those responsible for making sure the high value contract for the Benghazi project was secured. Although the original client specification was for the Versacor TF coating, as this product was no longer manufactured by Corus, it fell to the CIP team based in Milton Keynes, Dubai and Libya, to ensure that the advanced performance qualities of its replacement, Colorcoat Versashield®, were fully understood and appreciated. The suitability of the new product, through its superior humidity and abrasion resistance to the harsh, aggressive environmental conditions of the power plant cladding application, enabled the team to get the product technically specified.
Tough competition was faced from North America but the Corus package of cladding, shop drawings, technical support, shipping and documentation carried the day. Final approval for the whole system was obtained from GECOL (Libya’s state-owned General Electric Company).
