Corus International bid wins Thunderhawk semi submersible package

A major supply contract worth US$10 million revenue involving multi-sourcing in Europe and the Far East for Monaco based clients Single Buoy Moorings (SBM) has been masterminded through Corus International. The 11,400 metric tonnes order consists of high strength plates, 1,300 metric tonnes of bulb flats sourced from Europe and, in partnership with Corus Asia, 9,000 metric tonnes of shipbuilding plates. The materials are being shipped to a yard in Singapore for the fabrication of a semi-submersible production platform for the Thunderhawk field in the Gulf of Mexico.
The team principally due to the innovative and cost effective solution it offered and the good relationship enjoyed the success of the bid.
Fabrication of the hull began on the 19th January and is due to last until September 2007 after which the topside superstructure will be completed in the USA.
On a wider front, since winning this initial large order, other items of business for the offshore sector totalling 8,600 metric tonnes have been secured.
