For the past six months I have been a member of the Order Service Team within Supply Chain based in Commercial HQ, Llanwern.
My primary role is to provide order progress information for Corus Strip Products customers on a daily basis. I am one of the customer representatives within a six-man team dealing with the Corus owned Steel Service Centres within the UK. Each of the team are allocated customers for whom we are primarily responsible. I am currently liasing with a Corus plant that is based in Northern Ireland.
My job involves overseeing my customer’s orders and making sure that all their material is delivered at a steady pace into Belfast Quay. I am in daily contact with the planning team, Liverpool and Cardiff docks, as well as the customer. The Docks can affect deliveries as weather conditions may cause delays. When this happens its is up to me to make sure that these issues are dealt with swiftly and that the customer is always aware of what the problems are and how we are overcoming the issue.
Since my employment at Corus I have been on many training days, helping to understand the computer systems and also on works tours to watch how the steel is made, how the steel slab is rolled into coil and how different properties within the steel affect the finish of the coil. This has helped me to understand my job better.
Corus have also sent me to Ireland and a number of the Warehouses in order to meet the people I am dealing with daily on the phone and also to understand their problems and issues.
The team I work with are always extremely helpful and have made me feel very welcome within the office. My line manager is always willing to help me progress in my role.
