Katie Davies – Accountant Hot Rolled Products

I began my Finance Functional Traineeship in November 2005 after completing my A-levels.

I was interested in the role for various reasons ranging from having the opportunity to study while working full-time to playing a part in the business that is Corus.

I had studied A-levels in Accounting, Economics and Law and was interested in progressing on in my Accountancy studies. I was enrolled on a part-time course with the Association of Accounting Technicians which I was given day-release to attend every week at Bridgend College. Normally a three-year course, I was able to start in the second year as I had previous accountancy experience. The third year of the course is due to finish in June 2008 when I will then progress onto a professional qualification with the Chartered Institute of Management Accounts (CIMA).

Working in the Management Accounting department for both Coke & Iron and Hot Rolled Products areas of the site has set me on a steep learning curve. It is hard for those on the “outside” to imagine the complexity of things going on the site. The Corus Functional Traineeship provides you with an opportunity not only to have a career
