Why did you choose to work for Corus?

Corus is a reputable company with a strong position within the Times Top 100 Graduate Employers. From research on Corus, I got the impression that they place much emphasis on training and development for each individual employee. In addition, the role suited my degree very well and the location was ideal for my personal circumstances.

What does your current role involve?

My day-to-day activities include being the initial point of contact for all applicants to Corus, University correspondence and getting involved in Corus Corporate events – such as the Corus UK Graduate Induction for all new-starters with the company. I also organise and coordinate Corus presence at University events such as careers fairs and evening presentations. In addition, I have a key Health and Safety role within my business unit

What training have you received since joining Corus?

I received much role-specific training within my first six months with Corus, including Telephone Interview Training, Assessment Centre Training and Corporate Driver Training.

Please describe development opportunities you have had since joining Corus?

As mentioned above, I have attended many training courses to allow me to develop both professionally and personally. I also have had a lot of involvement in Corporate events, which have created networking opportunities with a range of Corus employees, including Senior Managers. During the first few months of my placement, I had massive responsibility in a new Corus recruitment campaign.

What are your future career aspirations?

After finishing my final year at University, I hope to return to Corus and join the Graduate scheme within a Human Resources role. Within two years, I wish to achieve CIPD Chartership.

Do you have any hints/tips/advice you would give to someone applying to Corus:

Use every stage of the recruitment process as an opportunity to sell yourself and tell us why Corus would benefit from recruiting you. Also, be prepared to make a difference! One of the best elements of my placement is the responsibility that I am trusted with, and how my work has an impact on how Corus is perceived by external sources. This proves that if you are prepared to put the work in, you can really make the most of your time with Corus.

Tell us something about your business unit location:

Leamington Spa is a well-developed town with plenty to offer. It’s central location offers good transport links up and down the country – a benefit for both work and pleasure! Ashorne Hill Management College is set in the Warwickshire countryside, offering Corus staff a number of benefits and beautiful views!
