I started with Corus back in Sept. 1997 as a graduate fresh from completing an 'industrial type' Ph.D (Eng.D) at Swansea University.

My first role within the company was situated within the Technical function and included spending a number of months in the various areas. This ranged from the Ironmaking area (start of steelmaking process) to the Customer Technical Services team who liase directly with customers. Within each of these areas I was given the responsibility to run with projects and make process improvements, which was great. Generally the day to day activity varied quite considerably ranging from office based activity like analysing data to being out in the manufacturing areas monitoring the plant. Other activities included liasing with logistics and commercial.

Since then I have undertaking a number of different roles since within Manufacturing and Technical which include:

My current job is Technology Manager for Llanwern Works which is part of the Technical Function that provides a support to the manufacturing areas.
I have the responsibility of ensuring my Dept. meets Safety targets and fulfils a good Technical service to the manufacturing areas. I also have the responsibility of ensuring that my Dept. receives the necessary training requirements to be able to provide a good service.

Looking back at my short career to date I can say that right from the start I was given projects that allowed me to take full responsibility for actions.

I also believe that if you prove yourselves and want to progress, Corus gives every opportunity for that to happen.
