Goran Vucenovic, Electrical Engineer
Goran began his four year apprenticeship at Corby in 2000. Here he explains why he thinks it was a great choice.

See you at Corus Tubes!
When I first time arrived in the UK I was in a dilemma about which course I should take to progress my career and become a professional. I had a talent for making things work and I decided to start my career in engineering. It seemed to me that many things get discovered but there was still a lot of room for new inventions. Engineering seems to be interesting, well paid and a highly sought-after field.
In 1999 I enrolled on the NVQ 2 course at Tresham College Corby. At the end of this course I was offered an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in electrical engineering with Corus Tubes. This was a great chance with a world renowned company and I went for it. If I had my time again I would do the same thing because, through the Corus apprenticeship, I have gained professional skills, knowledge and qualifications that are well recognised.
I started my apprenticeship in 2000 and it lasted for four years. During this time I was sponsored by Corus and gained a BTEC in Electrical Engineering & HNC qualifications in Mechatronics. I also gained experience of work within different departments and had the opportunity to choose which department I wanted to work in after I completed my apprenticeship.
I am now a fully qualified electrician with a good salary and prospects to enter management. Every day is different. Throughout the Corby site there are a lot of engineers who specialise in different fields and who welcome younger engineers on training and share their experience and knowledge with them.
If you are thinking about which career route you should follow, don’t take too long. Go for an engineering career because it is a most challenging and highly rewarding profession. There is a shortage of engineers so there are great prospects for employment and good salaries.I have found Corus Tubes to be excellent employer. So if you get the opportunity to join Corus, don’t miss it. See you at Corus Tubes!
